Goodbye Big Dog

Yesterday we said good-bye to our lovely big dog Murphy Mooser :”(

image

We have had a lovely time with him since he came to live with us last year, but sadly his back legs were failing and he was no longer able to do all the things that made him happy.

image

We had our last peninsula walk on Saturday with Winnie, Tara and Haggis. Sarah and I shared some tears, but seeing him struggle on the way home, I know it was the kindest thing to do for him.

image

The sun was shining yesterday for us when we went on our last stroll in Shieldaig together.
Later that day, when I was in Lochcarron, the brightest rainbow I’ve ever seen was shining down on his favourite place in the park.

image

I still think I’m going to trip over you in the dark! Probably will for a while..

Good bye big dog, we love you xxx

Busy Buying Bits

Hello all!
We’ve been busier than ever since our crowdfunding for Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures was successful, we now have our trailer, printer and payment system sorted!

All very exciting🙂

Now were sorting out our vouchers, stickers and maps for you lovely people, as well as looking at storage solutions for all of the new gear! Ideas welcome!

Apart from that, I’ve started with a new client which includes walking two spaniels🙂 happy days!

image

Tom is currently away for the night on the East coast fixing the Land Rover, Dom has gone back to Teeside for the weekend and I’m having a weekend off, being fed by the lovely Lyndsay🙂

Planning our trip back to Yorkshire next week so some of you will hear from us soon!

Things to be Thankful for

Hello all! We made it!!!

image

Our crowdfunding campaign was successful thanks to YOU!! We can’t thank you enough! We just hope you enjoy your future adventures with us!

We have had our fingers and toes and paws crossed all month while waiting for this day🙂 Tom is now busy getting things together ready for kicking off the season in March. It’s all very exciting!
Be sure to check out http://www.shieldaigadventures.com in the coming month for updates.

In other news, we had da Hanski and her friend Lucy up for a week at the beginning of the month and lots of good eating and walking and colouring ensued.

Tom’s friend Dom moved in to help with the rhododendron work.

image

He is also a chef. Which is great.

image

And he also has a PlayStation and fallout4. Which is even better🙂

It snowed.

Then it was just on the hills.

Then it was gone.

We spent our first Christmas off work together at home in Shieldaig with our friends, and started off the day with coffee, breakfast and presents down at the brae. Tom got a gang jumper..

The boys hung out in the shed fixing things and we (the girls) went for a dog walk.

We had afternoon snacks and Christmas dinner at our house with all the pets🙂

Thank you to everyone for our lovely gifts! I’ve been colouring everyday since Christmas!

We went to the dune beach on the coast road on boxing day

Christmas and Crowd Funder!

Hello All! I can’t quite believe how much time has passed every time I check this blog! And each time I have good intentions to post more regularly!!

Since October, we have mainly been working our butts off and dog walking our legs off. The usual really. Although this time some exciting news….

WE HAVE LAUNCHED CROWD FUNDER!!!!

As some of you may know, we both ceremoniously quit our shit jobs in January to pursue the dream of our own outdoor business (Ok, so I’ve had to work a bit to pay the bills) and finally, FINALLY, after almost a year, we have launched our crowd funder!

We started with zero, and now have even less money, but we have lots more fun and happiness in our lives! We have put everything we had into setting up Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures and became an insured official business a few months ago. We are in the perfect location for some amazing activities and Shieldaig is even part of the newly famous North Coast 500! A great reason to come and visit us! NC500

We are currently able to run dog-friendly mountain and low level walking, and canoeing and fishing trips but to make ourselves a viable business for the area we need to expand our activities and purchase more equipment to cater for groups.

Pledges start from £1, and every little helps!

For every donation you get some great discounts and rewards in return! If you can’t spare the cash, please share a link to our crowd funder on your social media! We really appreciate it!

We look forward to seeing you next year!!

Emily, Tom, Winnie and Murphy

More pictures please….

Because I’m not great at keeping this up to date and photos take tiiiiiime to upload, if you wanted to view photos almost daily, go onto Instagram.com and follow @highlandhighlife
It’s mainly pictures of the pooches and lovely scenery but it will give you an idea of what we’re up to when the blog is quiet!
BUT… I will try to write more regularly!
The photos from last post are camping at Loch Lundie and Camas, sunny days, dog walks, Hannah and Simons visit, boat trips and other stuff.
Nothing planned for the coming months but I’m sure something will happen🙂
Post soon! Byeeeeee!

Older

September has been good so far, Charlotte, Richard and Hollie came to stay a couple of days and lots of dog fun was had. Walks around the Ben Damph estate, beach times, and early birthday presents for me🙂
No photos I’m afraid, I’ve deleted them from my phone because of my new music ‘app’ takes up too much space!! See my Facebook for photo evidence!
A day shopping in Inverness was another highlight.
I’ve been at work this week with Murphy, Toms been busy working and Winnie walking and I turned 28 on  Friday! Woop! I bought myself a cupcake and celebrated with my lady in Lochcarron🙂

image

Just got home today, to my birthday cards and presents🙂 Thank you so much xx (Mum and Dad Tindale and Granny Harriss, I expect you’ll read this)

image

Here’s to being another year older and wiser…!
A nice week off now with mountain biking and fishing planned, but first, to Nanny’s Cafe, for a bacon sandwich and chocolate milkshake🙂 xx

Friends, Fishing and Photography

Things that have happened in August:
Garry and his girlfriend Heather were camping in Shieldaig when their tent blew down and snapped a pole in the wind, so we had some surprise house guests for a week and made new friends. Turns out he owns the Knoydart Snack Co. So check it out if you ever go! It looks amazing! The week after, Anders Brogaard the photographer and his girlfriend Camilla came to stay for a week. Lots of photography tours and boating, dog walking and fish eating!

Some of Anders’ photos:

Tom had a rigging course for mountain rescue, and cousin Neil arrived for a week of fishing. Some dog walking in the sunshine and some fantastic sunsets.

And Bailey’s biking birthday party:

At work this week while the boys are out playing, and then Charlotte and Richard arrive with Hollie on Monday night!! Woop! Lots of visitors! You guys are like buses! We love buses🙂 xxx

Fête Festivities

Shieldaig fête happened on the first weekend in August. Starting on the Friday night with the local raft race then  a party and food in the village hall. Many curries were eaten and songs were danced to.

image

image

Saturday kicked off with the Rowing Regatta and the motorbike trial with the Isle of Skye trials club, which went on most of the day. The street stalls opened at 1pm. Lots of local seafood and crafts, raffles, tea and coffee, face painting by me, and Archery provided by Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures.

image

Saturday night brought camping on the seafront with friends and the street ceilidh. Shame the weather had other ideas! Torrential rain put a damper on the dancing but I managed to get Tom to dance the Canadian barn dance with me before we ran for cover!

image

Sunday was a morning of rest, then they boys headed out to catch dinner and Iona and I took five dogs out walking! A lovely afternoon had by all and a fish supper🙂

image

Oh, and I found a lady’s bag, and got some sunflowers in return🙂

Have a cool week!
