What a great day! Perfect winter walking conditions on Ben Eighe, beautiful blue skies and perfect snow! It was my first time out with crampons and an ice axe and Tom is a great teacher!

The walk to the first summit was amazing. I practiced lots of winter skills; kicking steps, cutting steps and then walking in different ways with crampons!
The summit was rather windy so we only stopped for a mouthful of chocolate and a special ‘selfie’!

We headed off across the ridge to the next summit, practicing self-arrests and generally larking about on a snowy slope on the way!
Along another ridge then we made it to our descent gully packed with deep powder 🙂
We got to the bottom and it’s a beautiful amphitheatre of mountains and gullies, with the famous triple buttress to the left of us.

We made it back to the road just as it was getting dark and made the trek back to the car.
Home, fed and showered now, fire on and relaxing for the night. The hips have taken a battering but I’m feeling great! Thanks Tom for the tutoring.
Happy happy 🙂
