Monkfish and Festivals

Another busy week at work and a lovely sunny Monday/Tuesday off for us!

Tom has been rushed off his feet organising ‘The Torridon Mountain and Sea festival’, networking with various local people and business’ to make this year’s event a big one. From The Applecross Inn to Scottish National Heritage, Isle of Skye Trials Club and Go Where Scotland. The plans are coming together and it’s looking like it could be a success! It should be anyway!

Spread the word to everyone you know, and, if you’re free, you should come and experience the festival in all its glory, from 3rd to the 13th of October 2014! Walking, kayaking, climbing, mountain biking, motor biking, arts, ales, archery and much more!!!

After lots of organising, it was a much needed two days off, and very much enjoyed! Yesterday we had a nice lie in, a friend over for coffee, a big lunch in and an afternoon out at the Celtic Jumble. Torridon’s finest bouldering! We found an awesome little sun trap out of the wind and lots of nice rocks to climb.

We got a call while we were out inviting us to the Shieldaig pub for dinner! Lovely stuff! 🙂

We went over to David and Marie’s temporary residence, a lovely wee holiday cottage on loch Shieldaig before dinner. We all had the Monkfish special, and would have all had the sticky toffee pudding too if I liked it! But I let the team down and had ice cream instead. We went to bed with food babies and slept like logs! Didn’t really want to wake up this morning, but after a bacon sarnie we were ready for today’s sea kayaking adventure from Toscaig to the Crowlin Islands and back!

And we parked the Land Rover by a beach with an awesome sand dune on the way there… Just because.

This evening I went to Yoga class at the community hall with Marie, and the boys got up to manly things involving fire. All in all a good couple of days 🙂

The hotel is back to opening seven days a week from tomorrow, so we have to wait until Wednesday for our next day off. And most likely the next blog post, unless something worth reporting crops up between towel folding, festival organising and eating dinner!

Enjoy the next week everyone. Love from us xxx

Urgent Appeal

We got the news this morning that we have until the end of the summer to find somewhere to live as the landlord is selling our property.

This is good news as we recently found this house that we really love and it’s a bargain.

Just close enough to work and just far enough away. Perfect to create a self sufficient home and have my goats and ducks!!

So please, anyone, everyone, we need your help! Every little helps, only £124,500 needed to make the dream happen!!!!

Fun four days

The hotel was rather quiet this weekend and as a consequence I was told to take it off, as well as Monday and Tuesday! Woo!

Saturday was terrible weather so I stayed inside and watched horror films all day (the only time I can watch them!) while Tom was at work. Sunday was still grey but it was dry which was a surprise! Tom had the day off too so we went for a walk in the afternoon with Jordan and Luke, had pizza and chips for dinner and watched Ru Paul’s drag race 🙂 Lucky Tom!!

Monday the weather was AMAZING! SUNSHINE!!!!!! And no wind!!!! We had a good breakfast before getting the canoe out and going for a paddle on the loch. We went to Torridon House where we had lunch on the pier in the sun, and paddled back down the coast home. About 6km in total, just a nice lazy afternoon on the sea 🙂

We were back about half an hour before Chris arrived for yet another visit and he’d brought us some supplies from Tesco. Thanks Chris! He and Tom went up to work that evening to meet Stuart from Sea Kayak Oban and collect his new boat fleet! Very Exciting! Tom now has a shiny new composite sea kayak of his own!

Tuesday was another beautiful day, glorious sunshine and just a light breeze in the air. I think winter is over for the Highlands now, most the snow has disappeared from the mountains and it’s pretty mild. Though we haven’t had to de-ice the car once this year anyway! Seeing as the weather was so good we drove over to Diabaig to go rock climbing, a rare occurrence for March in the Highlands! Diabaig bay looked stunning and we had a perfect view from where we were climbing. A great day!

We got home that night and I prepared an awesome roast chicken dinner for us and David and Marie came over too. David taught me how to make Yorkshire puddings! They turned out to be the biggest ones I’d ever seen! Yum yum! We had a nice evening chatting and whisky drinking 🙂

It was a good four days and I was feeling extra ready for work on Wednesday after the rest! Good times!

Tom has been out kayaking with Ryan this afternoon, testing his new boats out and he’s on another day off tomorrow so I expect he’ll be doing more of the same!

Goodnight Everyone! x

Biking and bacon

I’ve lost my phone! Mighty irritating considering I had some good photos and a blog post nearly finished! dammit!

Well, Simon arrived last Saturday night with James and Rich for some winter climbing action. They all got up mega early on Sunday and were out the house by 6am, headed to Triple Buttress on the back of Beinn Eighe. Pretty jealous considering I spent the day making beds and folding towels! Never mind! They returned home about 9pm that night after a rather long but awesome day out on the hill, with Tom sporting a war wound from Simon dropping a piton on him!

We had enchiladas for teat hat night then early to bed and they slept well! Monday morning we decided against another early start and had a good breakfast instead! Mmmmmmm bacon! We went out for a bike ride that afternoon as the weather was pretty lovely. We cycled from our house round to Torridon house, pushed up the Coire mac Noubuil path then had an awesome down hill on the road back to Torridon village!

We neeeeeeed to win the lottery and buy Torridon house estate! It’s beautiful!

We said our goodbyes to the boys that evening after Simon cooked a mega bolognese for us all. Hopefully see you soon guys!

Chris came back to visit again on Thursday too. So many people around! 🙂

Tom was back at work on Tuesday but I had another day to lounge around and tidy the house. Ive re arranged and spring cleaned the house and it’s looking great! (if I say so myself). Back at work for the rest of the week now, looking forward to Monday as Tom is having his new boat fleet delivered! Hope all is well down South!

Peace

Friends, friends and more friends!

Tom’s friend Chris came to stay with us yesterday. We went up to the Inn after work for dinner, drinks and few badly played games of pool.
I had venison pie for dinner, which I consumed before the boys were halfway done and consequently spent the next hour in food pain! That’ll teach me. We said out goodbyes today though he may return next week for another visit 🙂
AND Simon is coming to Torridon to climb tomorrow and Monday! It’ll be good to see him again. AND Tom just heard from Chris and Ali that they are coming to stay at the Inn and deliver canoes in April! We’re being spoilt with visitors!
2014 is a good year so far! Hope it’s the same for all of you. Come and see us soon! X
