Spring has Sprung

Since last Thursday, other than work, there’s been sunshine, gardening, babysitting and take aways, and I saved Tom’s life when he choked on a sausage sandwich! Spring is here and we’re kicking it off with a long weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

We began our weekend yesterday and it’s off to a good start. A lazy morning followed by an afternoon South African Brai (bbq) atย David and Marie’s new house. Salads and South African ‘porridge’ which was maize and tomato sauce! It was really tasty!ย

We’ve had an email about a house to buy on the same estate where they live so while we were there we went for a nosy through the windows ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a really nice new build 3 bed detached bungalow so fingers crossed everything goes well!! We have arranged a viewing for Monday at 11am. We will keep you posted!

Today we are chilling and cleaning the Landy/house before heading south tonight on an adventure to Laggan Wolftrax in the Cairngorms. We are taking the Ambulance for a camping trip, and planning to ride the crap out of my mountain bike on Sunday! Cannae wait!ย

Have a good weekend!

Isle of Skye and a Butterfly. And my Mum.

Hello! So! Chris and Ali left us Friday morning and we started our week at work. I was still going to David’s garden and on Saturday I found this guy with a broken wing.ย

I looked after him each day for three days, giving him flowers and sugar water, and, on the third day, he flew (sort of) away into the vegetable patch ๐Ÿ™‚

Tom’s friend Trev showed up on Sunday night, just as Tom was packing to go to Skye! Bad timing! Though we said he could crash while he was in the area, and he wasn’t a bad house guest to be fair. Cooked and everything!

Tom was on his 4* sea kayak training Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, with Gordon Brown. (No, not that one!) Doing rescues, landings, navigation and other sea kayaky things and it’s been amazing weather for him too! He’s come back with lots of new books, dvd’s and ‘psych’ for sea kayaking! ๐Ÿ™‚

How cool is that last photo?!! They were surf landing onto a beach at the time. Tom is on the left talking the other guy in!ย

Meanwhile back at the house on Tuesday, my Mother arrived! ๐Ÿ™‚ We didn’t do a great deal as sod’s law decided the weather would be shite while she was here and glorious both days either side of her trip. But we went on a walk on Wednesday while the sun was out briefly.

That night, Tom returned, Trev got back from Applecross and we cooked and ate a big cottage pie ๐Ÿ™‚

Thursday we were lazy, and Friday we said goodbye to Mother, andย started another week at work.

And on that note, I’ll leave you with a nice photo of the sun ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Waterfalls and watery falls

Chris and Ali came to stay with us on Tuesday evening ๐Ÿ™‚ They arrived with supplies and Tom’s new boat, ready for a fun couple of days.

Wednesday was unfortunately pretty bad weather but we waterproofed up and went for a walk to the hotel and around the grounds. I went down to check on David’s garden and picked some leeks and broccoli for fresh soup, before we wandered through the rhododendron checking out Tom’s plans for bike trails. Back to the house for lunch and a brew before a drive to the Balgy to check levels for today’s paddle, then onto Shieldaig to go to the shop then home again. Ali and Chris went for dinner that evening in the inn, and we went to join them for some beers afterwards. Whisky nightcap at home and bed ๐Ÿ™‚

This morning was slightly better weather but it had rained all night so the boys went to paddle the Balgy. Ali and I had a drive up to go and take some photos but found the boys out the river with a missing boat and paddle! Tom had taken a swim further up the river and taken a bit of a beating but he was ok, if a little bruised. We walked up and managed to find the gear, a bit worse for wear (a big dent in the boat!) but thankfully it was there! Chris then paddled the big rapid at the bottom with some style, before Tom got back on and they finished the river together. Back to the house for lunch before continuing ‘adventure day’ with a mountain bike ride to pop my mountain bike’s cherry!

We pushed up Ben Damph for about two hours, during which it rained, hailed, sun, rained, hailed, rained etc. (a bit of a slog!) before joining the Annat trail for some amazing downhill action in the rain, hail and sun! I didn’t know bikes could ride over such big rocks so fast without killing you! I only took two flyers over the handlebars, and only lightly winded myself each time. I managed to avoid the rocks and land in the sodden grass banks both times. Winner! Feeling pretty psyched for getting bike fit so I can ride uphill more than I push, but I’m very happy with my new bike and glad I spent what I did. Well worth it!

We were all pretty worn out tonight but we made it to the pub for a game of pool and caught a couple of songs from the band that were playing. It was ‘The Swinging Blue Jeans’! Well famous back in the day!

At home now having a cuppa. Chris and Ali are heading to Fort William tomorrow morning so we’ll not be long out of bed I think. Good luck with the little one guys, and we look forward to coming and visiting the new family when we can! Thanks for a great two days ๐Ÿ™‚

When it rains, it pours!

I was just on my way back from turndown this evening, looking forward to an early night and a film, when Tom got his second rescue call out! I’m guessing these things are like buses!ย

Six Lithuanian people are lost somewhere near Uags. They’ve been looking for the bothy since 4pm and its only half an hour from the road so I think it’s going to be a long night for him and the team. The terrain around that area is difficult to navigate at the best of times with the best of skills! And no chopper to help search.ย

The weather is pretty horrible just now too! All I can do is keep the bed warm I guess! Good luck Torridon Mountain Rescue team!

Stay safe!!ย

Happy Birthday Mr T

That’s it, the last year for him to enjoy officially being a young man! ๐Ÿ˜‰ย

We were working today but we have the weekend at the end of the month off to go out and play somewhere ๐Ÿ™‚ Cannae wait!

Tom got a specially made battenberg cake from Marie, a pint after work and now his first mountain rescue call out! What a day!ย

Hoping he’ll have found the missing people and be back in time for bed. Fingers crossed. Stay safe everyone!

Barfing, broccoli and a bike

Hello folks, hope you’re all well,  this week our house is a sick house. Tom has been laid up in bed for five days but glad to say he’s up and about again now ๐Ÿ™‚
Needless to say we haven’t been up to much but I’m looking after David’s garden and Geraldine’s ‘nuts’ while they’re away which is good ๐Ÿ™‚ Mmmmm fresh broccoli. And I’VE GOT A MOUNTAIN BIKE!!!

It’s so sexy! I can’t wait for Tom to be well enough to go proper riding! Prepare yourselves for injury pictures! Ciao for now!
